We have worked diligently to try and include the majority of our frequently asked questions regarding our web design and development services in one convenient location. Artmix have been building web experiences for over 3 years. In that time we have gained a vast amount of experience and knowledge. We crafted this FAQ page to answer many of the frequently asked questions we were asked along the way.
Q: I am totally new to this "website thing". How does the whole process work?
A: Never fear, that's why we are here. You can learn about our time proven process in our process section.
Q: How long has Artmix Web been building websites?
A: Artmix Web was founded in 2015 by President + Founder, Geovanis Rizo. You can learn more on our company page.
Q: How much does a website cost?
A: The cost of a website can vary depending on various factors, just like the cost of a house may vary. Though our website projects generally start in from %300 up to $5,999 range for basic business sites and range upward depending on your unique needs.
Q: How does the payment process work?
A: The project starts with a 50% deposit. After design sign off and before we move into programming, we collect 25%. Once we have completed and fulfilled our scope, the final 25% is collected and your website is then scheduled for launch.
Q: What kind of businesses do you work with?
A: We work with a broad range of company types [small start-ups, large corporations, nonprofits, B2B, B2C and more] across many business industries [technology, food, apparel, health + beauty, camps, travel, finance, arts, fair trade, and more.]
Over the years, we've helped businesses improve customer service, market their products, and attract customers. Functionality requests range from basic to advanced. Our team takes the time to get to know your industry, organization, and competitors to ensure your site supports all of your goals.
Q: How long does it take to build a website?
A: Some project the progress take just 24hours other like our standard websites take approximately 120 days to create. Our E-commerce (online store) websites take approximately 160 days to create. This time will vary from project to project.
Q: Who will I work with during the project?
A: This is a great question to ask and you should ask it of any web design and development firm you are considering. Many firms will farm out work to freelancers or interns. Some firms give little or no access to client’s who want to speak directly with their designers or developers. Our clients work directly with our tight knit crew of 5. Who that will be depends on your project needs and what stage of the process you are in during the project.
Q: What platform do you build your websites on?
A: We build all of our websites on the open-source Content Management System (CMS) platform called MODX.
Q: Do you work with other platforms like Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal?
A: No. We are exclusively a MODX CMS firm. In choosing to build with one platform over the past 10 years, we have become experts in MODX and can create extremely custom solutions for our clients.
Q: Can you help me update my existing website that another web firm built?
A: No. We only support websites that we have fully built. We have this policy so that we can 100% stand behind everything that we craft. There are issues of liability of multiple programmers touching the same code over time.
Q: Can you help me write content for my website?
A: Yes. We include copy writing and editing in all of our proposals. We also build your sitemap and help structure the foundation of your website in the planning stages.
Q: Can you help me source photos for my website?
A: Yes. We will help you source stock photos from sites such as www.crestock.com and www.istock.com. We also have photographers and videographers available to produce custom photography and videos for your website.
Q: Do I own my website?
A: YES! Everything that we build will be 100% owned by you. Most of our clients stay with us for the life of the website. Our team is just irresistible that way. But if for any reason you decide you want to take your site to another hosting service and get another company to service the site, we will happily assist you in making the transition as effortlessly and efficiently as possible. The website is yours after all, and we want you to take it wherever you go.
Q: What's with the name?
A: The President + Founder, Mike Lannen, formed Artmix Web in his dorm room at Champlain College in 2000. Lannen believes in not just building website, but in building relationships that last a life-time, and then some, hence the name. As an Eagle Scout and SBA Rising Star award winner, he is passionate about every project and always loves "Being Prepared" for anything.
Q: Where is my website hosted?
A: All websites that Artmix Web created must live in our servers. However, if at any time you wish to move to a new web firm + web host, we will package up your site at no cost to send to the new firm. Though at that time, we will no longer be able to support your site. The company we use for web hosting is a datacenter called www.singlehop.com. We are housed in the Chicago Data Center. On top of that Artmix Web also has a 3rd party 24/7/365 security and monitoring team, so even when we are all sleeping, your server is being watched over.
Q: What type of web server does Artmix Web use?
A: Artmix Web houses all of our clients on a single dedicated server that we continually upgrade on a yearly basis at our datacenter in Chicago with Singlehop and no other companies are sharing with us.
Q: How is my website backed up?
A: Artmix Web backs up all of our client's websites daily, weekly and monthly on rotation to a 3rd party secure server out of the location of our web server. Our CMS we use called MODX also includes version control that saves a restore point of a page every time it is saved. If a site is needed to be fully restored, there is no cost to the client.
Q: How much does web hosting cost with Artmix Web?
A: We have simplified are packages for hosting down to two options. Non E-Commerce: $600 per year and E-commerce: $600 to $1,000 per year. All of our hosting packages are un-metered meaning that you will never be charged extra for going over a "limit." There are occasionally instances though if a site creates so much traffic that it may need to live on it's own server. We can help facilitate this if needed, but is extremely rare. Our yearly package also includes the cost of upgraded your site and patching with security fixes when needed as well as occasional and small web site content changes and phone support.
Q: Will you provide a full copy/backup of our site if requested?
A: Yes and at no cost! You 100% own everything that Artmix Web creates for you and if requested we will provide a one-time full backup of your website. If additional backups are needed there is a minimal cost of generally $70 for 30 minutes of labor.
Q: Is my hosting fee refundable?
A: Unfortunately we do not offer refunds on our web hosting accounts.
The timescale of a website design project is often dictated by the client. If you have a deadline in mind we will make every effort to meet it for you. The most common delay in the creation and completion of a new website is waiting for content (text/images) to be sent to us by the client. For most projects, we try to work within the 4-6 week time-frame.
In the majority of cases a meeting isn’t necessary and most of our websites are generally completed with contact via email and telephone only. We place suggested website designs online via, our secure testing server for you to view the work in progress. This way we can have regular communication to ensure you are getting exactly what you expect from the Artmix team.
We fully support any website we design and are always available should you encounter any problems or require any enhancements. We offer web site maintenance, web hosting, seo and marketing, domain registration and graphic design and print. We have you covered.
It is helpful to us if you are able to provide text and photographs in electronic form – for example, the files output by a digital camera and the copy in MS word or similar format. If this is not possible, we can help get your information ready for use on the website. We will also provide you instructions on how to upload the material via FTP or email.
All our websites are created with search engines in mind and the website design is compliant with search engine guidelines. It is a good idea for your website to be re-evaluated in time as over a period of time the search engines do alter their rules and algorithms and you will want to be certain that your website is kept up to date and complies with new rules etc. To gain maximum visibility by the search engines, we highly recommend utilizing our comprehensive SEO services.
No. We discuss with you your website requirements and then price accordingly and once you have placed an order for your website design with us, we work hard so that the outlined price quote is strictly adhered to. Web design is very much an evolutionary process and often clients change the scope of a project once underway. If the need to alter the price quote arises, we will communicate this to you before any extra work is started. I changes and/or additions are requested by the client additional costs will be agreed to.
There are many different methods which can be used to update websites. The method you choose and the functionality we build into your website design is solely up to yourself and your budget restrictions. Of course, Artmix is always available to help you with any future additions and changes you would like. We will be glad to advise you which method will suit your needs.
If you have a small website consisting of just a few pages and will only wish to make changes very infrequently, then usually it is more cost effective simply to ask Artmix to carry out these changes for you. Other methods which are frequently chosen are largely dependent upon how much data or information and pictures you have and how you store this information at present.
We can provide an on line content management system where you can either update individual products/pages/services or particular sections of your website. e.g. company news.
Alternatively we can provide functionality such that you can upload your entire product ranges to the website in one action using spreadsheets etc. We can also add databases if you wish.
Yes! For one time changes, we will provide you with an estimate before beginning the work and charge at our standard hourly rate. If you anticipate regular needs for maintenance, one of our Ongoing Maintenance Plans may be more cost-effective for you.
What Is The Best Approach For Content Maintenance On My Site?
Artmix offers three options for maintaining and refreshing your site content. We don't care which option you choose, but we strongly encourage you to update your site regularly.
The Pay as You Go Plan: Call us when you need to add to or make a change to your content. We'll complete your request within 48 hours, and bill you at our standard hourly rate. Urgent requests can generally be completed within a few hours for an additional charge.
Ongoing Maintenance Plan: Sign up for one of our ongoing maintenance plans, and you'll receive a discount on our standard rates.
Content Management System (CMS): Purchase a Content Management System from Spritz and make all the changes you want. Perfect if your site requires frequent updates.
Your website visitors will see some things differently depending on their browser, screen resolution setting and their individual computer settings and toolbars. We design sites with that in mind and preview them in several browser types and resolution settings before publishing. Obviously as technology alters then eventually all websites may need some tweaking or re-evaluation.
Yes we do. We can re-design your site retaining your company corporate style or we can re-design to give you a complete new image.
